ZWO 1.25" Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector (ADC)
- A few left in stock!
Eliminate unwanted color fringing and unleash high-resolution planetary imaging with the ZWO 1.25" Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector (ADC). Voted a "Hot Sky Product" by Sky & Telescope magazine, this essential optical accessory counteracts the prismatic refraction caused by Earth’s atmosphere—allowing you to capture razor-sharp views and crisp photographs of Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and the Moon, even when they are low on the horizon.
Available in India with official warranty and support through Modern Telescopes.
Why You Need an ADC for Planetary Imaging & Visual Observing
When light from celestial objects passes through Earth's atmosphere at an angle, the atmosphere acts like a glass prism. It bends light of different wavelengths (colors) at slightly different angles—a phenomenon known as atmospheric dispersion.
This creates blue/cyan fringes on one side of a planet and red/orange fringes on the opposite side, resulting in blurred fine details, loss of contrast, and degraded image resolution that cannot be recovered in post-processing.
The ZWO ADC solves this problem optically at the telescope level. Utilizing two high-precision rotatable prisms, it applies an equal and opposite dispersion effect, bringing red, green, and blue light back into perfect alignment at your focal plane.
Key Features & Highlights
-
High-Precision H-K9L Prisms: Features two precision-ground H-K9L (Schott BK7 equivalent) glass prisms crafted with $\lambda/10$ @ 632.8nm surface accuracy for near-zero optical distortion.
-
Anti-Reflective Broadband Coating: UV-friendly AR coatings (optimized for 300 nm to 700 nm wavelengths) maximize light transmission, making it ideal for visual observing and UV/IR planetary photography.
-
Dual Lever Adjustment System: Two independently adjustable levers allow you to seamlessly vary the correction strength from zero to maximum depending on the target's altitude.
-
Integrated Bubble Level & Locking Scale: Includes a built-in bubble level and white locking screw to easily identify your horizontal zero (null) position across changing mount orientations.
-
Versatile T2 & 1.25" Compatibility: Comes standard with a 1.25" nosepiece, 1.25" eyepiece adapter with brass compression ring, and standard male/female M42x0.75 (T2) threads for direct coupling to ZWO ASI cameras, Barlow lenses, and filter wheels.

Recommended Optical Train Setup
For maximum performance, the ZWO ADC should be placed where the optical beam is slower (f/10 or slower).
-
Optimal Chain:
Telescope$\rightarrow$Barlow Lens$\rightarrow$ZWO ADC$\rightarrow$Filter Wheel$\rightarrow$Planetary Camera(e.g., ZWO ASI224MC, ASI662MC, ASI585MC, ASI178MM). -
Note: If using a fast telescope (f/4 to f/6), place a 2x–3x Barlow lens in front of the ADC to increase the focal ratio to f/10+, preventing unwanted astigmatism.
